Cherise N. Russo D.O.

Dr. Cherise RussoDr. Cherise Russo is a Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician at Northwestern Orthopaedic Institute. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has a CAQ in Primary Care Sports Medicine. She received her medical degree from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her Family Medicine Residency at Resurrection Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident. She conducted her Sports Medicine Fellowship training in California and graduated from Harbor-UCLA. Dr. Russo returned to Chicago in 2007 to become director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship and part of the faculty at the Resurrection Family Medicine Residency. During that time, she also served as the medical director for the athletic training program at North Park University.

After two years as a fellowship director, Dr. Russo joined Northwestern Orthopaedic Institute, where she continues to be involved with education and teaching. Dr. Russo is a clinical instructor at Feinberg School of Medicine and also teaches Northwestern Emergency Medicine residents and Family Medicine residents from the University of Chicago Glenbrook Family Medicine Residency.

Since 2007, she has volunteered as one of the lead physicians for the Chicago Marathon. She also served as medical director for the Journal of Men's Health Chicago Urbanathlon in 2007 and 2008. Dr. Russo also volunteers her time as the head team physician for Loyola Academy High School.

While in California, Dr. Russo was one of the team physicians for the Los Angeles Rugby Club and their team physician for the USA Rugby National Championship. She was also the co-medical director for the 2006 Los Angeles Triathlon. Dr. Russo was also a volunteer physician for the 2007 USA Youth Women's Soccer Tournament in Los Angeles. She also served as the Medical Director for the NCAA Division II Men's Far West Regional Soccer Tournament and was part of the medical team for Dew Extreme Games in San Jose in 2006.

Dr. Russo has presented at the 54th and 56th Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine and she presented updates on concussion at the 2009 Annual Symposium for the Academy of Sports Dentistry. She continues to conduct research in primary care sports medicine and is involved with the community. Dr. Russo specializes in the care of the whole athlete and has a special focus on women's sports medicine and osteopathic treatments. When she is not taking care of athletes, she enjoys playing volleyball and running.
